Senegal won the AFCON 2025 final on the pitch 1-0 in extra time in Rabat on 18 January 2026, after a brief walk-off protest against a stoppage-time penalty awarded to Morocco. The CAF Appeal Board later ruled, under Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON Regulations, that Senegal forfeited the match by leaving the field without the referee’s authorisation, recording the result as a 3-0 win for Morocco.
The Senegalese Football Federation lodged an appeal with CAS on 17 March 2026, which CAS’s registry formally confirmed via media release; a CAS Arbitral Panel is to be appointed to hear the matter.
The case turns on how the Laws of the Game distinguish a temporary stoppage from a full abandonment, and on the deference CAS gives to a match referee’s on-field authority — a live, high-profile test of that doctrine in African football.
