Al Ahly withdrew from a 2024/25 Egyptian Premier League fixture against Zamalek in the first round of the season's second phase, after its request for a foreign refereeing team was not met. Egypt's competitions committee initially imposed a six-point penalty on Al Ahly over the withdrawal: three points for the forfeited match itself, treated as a loss, plus a further three points to be deducted at the end of the season. The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association subsequently amended that decision, keeping only the three-point deduction tied directly to the forfeited match and cancelling the additional three-point end-of-season penalty — invoking a provision allowing different treatment in exceptional circumstances, reasoning that the scheduling window between the fixture draw and kickoff had not allowed enough time to secure foreign officials through normal league procedures.
Pyramids FC finished the season two points behind Al Ahly and challenged the amended ruling, since the outcome directly affected which club would be champion. Pyramids first asked CAS to suspend the official announcement of the league title pending a final ruling; that urgent request was denied, CAS noting Egypt's competitions association had confirmed both Al Ahly and Pyramids had already qualified for the following season's CAF Champions League regardless of the outcome, so an immediate announcement would not itself prejudice the case. On the merits, Pyramids argued the original six-point sanction should never have been reduced to three, and that reinstating the full six points would have taken the title race in their favour.
CAS dismissed Pyramids' appeal in full, in a reasoned decision running to 29 pages, upholding the League's decision to reduce the sanction to three points rather than reinstating the original six, and ordered Pyramids to bear the costs of the arbitration. Al Ahly was confirmed as 2024/25 Egyptian Premier League champions, the club's 45th league title.
