Wydad AC (Morocco) was charged with misconduct after its supporters invaded the pitch to celebrate and threw bottles during the club's fixture against CR Belouizdad of Algeria on 24 April 2022, part of the 2022 TotalEnergies Champions League.
The CAF Disciplinary Board imposed two separate fines on Wydad: USD 8,000 for its supporters throwing bottles, and a further USD 10,000 for the pitch invasion and the club's failure to comply with required security measures. Beyond the financial penalties, the Board also capped attendance at Wydad's Mohammed V Stadium to a maximum of 30,000 spectators for the club's next semi-final fixture, citing the same failure to implement and comply with existing security rules.
The Board attached a further, self-executing compliance condition on top of the attendance cap: if Wydad failed to comply with that instruction, the Board would automatically impose a behind-closed-doors sanction for the club's next two home matches, with no further hearing needed to trigger the harsher sporting sanction — an escalation built directly into the original decision rather than something requiring a fresh disciplinary process if breached.
