Mamelodi Sundowns hosted AS FAR at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on 17 May 2026 in the first leg of the 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final, winning 1-0 through an Aubrey Modiba goal. CAF's Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Senegalese official Ousmane Kane, convened an extraordinary session afterward to review referee and match commissioner reports on incidents and clashes during the fixture.
The Committee fined Mamelodi Sundowns USD 35,000 over the equipment used by the club's own security personnel, violations of safety standards, and the stadium announcer's use of loudspeakers during match events.
AS FAR was fined a considerably larger USD 100,000, which the Disciplinary Committee attributed specifically to what it described as a recurrence of fan-related incidents during the same competition — language that ties directly back to the club's earlier sanctions in the same Champions League cycle for smoke bombs and laser pointers in group-stage and quarter-final fixtures. At the time this fine was reported, CAF's Disciplinary Committee had separately not yet announced decisions on incidents from the previous month's Confederation Cup semi-final between Morocco's Olympique Safi and Algeria's USM Alger, suggesting further sanctions from that unrelated tie remained pending.
The second leg, played 24 May 2026 at Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, finished 1-1 — Mohamed Hrimat converting a VAR-awarded penalty for AS FAR in the 40th minute, before Teboho Mokoena's stoppage-time strike restored Sundowns' aggregate lead; goalkeeper Ronwen Williams then saved a second Hrimat penalty to seal a 2-1 aggregate win and Sundowns' second Champions League title. The differing fine amounts for the two finalists over the first leg illustrate how CAF's Disciplinary Committee calibrates a sanction not just to the specific incident before it, but to a club's own disciplinary history within the same competition: AS FAR's fine reflects an explicit finding of recurrence, while Sundowns' smaller fine addressed narrower, first-instance equipment and conduct failures.
