Al Ittihad president Mahmoud Abouda was charged with misconduct and bringing CAF into disrepute after he directed vulgar language at match officials and specifically accused the referee of corruption, following the club's TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup fixture against Ahli Tripoli on 23 April 2022. In the same disciplinary sitting, Ahli Tripoli was separately fined for allowing roughly 150 supporters into the stadium without the necessary authorisation for that match.
The CAF Disciplinary Board found Abouda guilty and imposed a six-month suspension from all CAF-related football activities, together with a USD 10,000 fine.
The case is a straightforward illustration that CAF's disciplinary jurisdiction over misconduct extends beyond players and reaches club officials and administrators directly, where their own personal conduct toward match officials is at issue rather than any action taken by their club's team or supporters.
