AS FAR (Morocco) drew 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) in a TotalEnergies CAF Champions League fixture on 7 December 2024, Sundowns taking a 66th-minute lead through Iqraam Rayners before AS FAR equalised through Mohamed Hrimat in the 78th. CAF charged AS FAR with misconduct after its supporters used both smoke bombs and laser pointers during the match. The CAF Disciplinary Board found the club guilty and imposed two separate fines: USD 5,000 for the smoke bombs and a further USD 10,000 for the laser pointers, a combined USD 15,000. This ruling was announced on 29 December 2024 as part of the same batch of disciplinary matters that also addressed CR Belouizdad's supporters for a separate incident in their own fixture against Orlando Pirates on 26 November 2024, and Libya's national federation for supporter and official misconduct in a match against Benin.
This was not AS FAR's only disciplinary encounter with CAF over supporter conduct that season: the club was fined again in April 2025 for failing to organise adequate security and for further use of laser pointers in a fixture against Pyramids FC, and again fined USD 100,000 in a May 2026 ruling for what CAF's Disciplinary Committee described as a recurrence of fan-related incidents during the same competition.
Taken together with those later rulings, this case is a useful marker of a club being treated as a repeat subject of supporter-conduct proceedings across a single competition cycle, with CAF's disciplinary language explicitly referencing the pattern of recurrence when assessing later, larger fines.
