Al Masry of Egypt was charged with misconduct after its officials and players displayed unsporting behaviour at the end of the club's TotalEnergies Confederation Cup 2022 fixture against RS Berkane of Morocco, played on 23 April 2022.
The CAF Disciplinary Board sanctioned four individuals connected to Al Masry arising from that single incident. Players Farid Shawky Ali Elmarghany and Mohamed Abdelatif Ahmed were each suspended for the club's next four CAF inter-club matches and fined USD 10,000 for unacceptable and abusive language toward the referee. Separately, club official Mejdi Traoui was suspended for four CAF inter-club matches and fined USD 10,000 for shoving a stadium security member. The most severe individual sanction fell on club official Mahmoud Gaber, suspended for six months from all CAF-related football activity and fined USD 10,000 for slapping both the referee and the second assistant referee.
The spread of sanctions across four different individuals in one incident, rather than a single club-level fine, shows CAF's Disciplinary Board attributing and punishing personal misconduct to the specific individual responsible for it. Gaber's six-month suspension — markedly longer than the four-match bans given to the two players and to Traoui — reflects that physically slapping match officials was treated as materially more serious than abusive language or shoving a security member, even though all four sanctions arose from the same match and the same broader incident of unsporting conduct at its conclusion.
